Until 31st August, you can get 50% off when you eat at pubs, restaurants and cafes that are registered with the government’s Eat Out to Help Out scheme. A considerable number of Skipton’s eateries have signed up to the scheme and many have taken advantage of this great offer already. If you’re still a bit apprehensive about eating out during this pandemic, rest assured that all businesses are fully adhering to safety guidelines!
We’ve had some wonderful warm weather recently and what better way to enjoy it than with a freshly cooked lunch and an ice cold pint? We have some excellent pubs in Skipton serving a diverse range of dishes and with most offering 50% off Monday to Tuesday, it’s a great time to find your new favourite.
There are only 5 days left on which you can bag yourself a bargain lunch as part of the Eat Out to Help Out scheme. To help you decide where to enjoy your next half-price lunch, we thought we’d show you a few of the tasty dishes available locally…
Ploughman’s Lunch – The Cock and Bottle
Traditional, filling and perfect for those warmer days, the Ploughman’s Lunch at The Cock and Bottle is an absolute delight. For just £6.75 you can casually eat your way through a board of superb Yorkshire produce including a warm pork pie from a local butcher, two types of Yorkshire cheeses, slices of local ham and fresh bread.
They’re really generous with how much they give you so if you’re a cheese lover, you’re in for a real treat. On the board, you will also get a pot of butter, a pot of pickle, pickled onion and a dressed side salad. Alcoholic drinks aren’t included in the scheme but we think this goes perfectly with a large glass of red (or two)!
Steak and Ale Pie – The Railway
The Railway is a pub, restaurant and Bed & Breakfast on Cavendish Street. Since their total revamp a couple of years ago, they’ve deservingly built a reputation as one of the best places to eat in Skipton. With cosy interiors, friendly staff, good ales and a menu of delicious home-cooked grub prepared by their talented chef, it’s perfect for a boozy lunch.
Their Steak and Ale Pie is a firm favourite with locals. Expect tender chunks of quality steak encased in crisp, homemade pastry and served with mash or chips, seasonal veg and lashings of proper gravy! If you’re not a meat eater then their Cheese and Onion Pie is also exceptionally good and comes with new potatoes and a fresh salad. Filling, delicious and an absolute bargain at a fiver!
Surf ‘n’ Turf – Craven Heifer
Just outside Skipton on Grassington Road, you’ll find Craven Heifer Inn. With its enviable countryside location and gorgeous views of the Yorkshire Dales, it’s ideal for a relaxing family lunch. All of the food at Craven Heifer is sourced locally so you’re guaranteed a meal bursting with good quality Yorkshire produce.
One of the stand-out dishes on the menu at Craven Heifer is their take on a British gastropub classic. The Craven Surf ‘n’ Turf is a lemon & herb chicken breast topped with king prawns and chorizo, served with a crunchy pepper salad and red salt fries. Fresh, unique and delicious, this dish is perfect for summer and will cost you just £7.98 when you dine Monday to Wednesday this month.
