Originally opened in 1920, Sarsaparillas is one of Skipton’s oldest shops. Current owner, Jon Costello, has worked tirelessly throughout the pandemic to ensure locals can still enjoy his extensive range of sweets despite his shop being closed during both national lockdowns.
The COVID-19 pandemic has had a devastating effect on small businesses this year and with consumers having little option but to shop online for non-essential goods during lockdowns, such businesses have had to increase their online presence in order to survive.
There are now an endless number of people on social media offering bulk boxes of loose confectionery at low prices and numerous overheads to consider, it’s difficult for an independent shop owner to compete with such sellers. However, we think that the marvellous Sarsaparillas offers something a little different and as they’ve been serving Skipton residents for over a century, they deserve our support whilst they are missing out on their usual Christmas trade. As regular customers ourselves, we wanted to share with you just a small selection of their products which we believe would make the sweetest of Christmas gifts. All the products we have featured are available to order online for click and collect or local delivery.
