Part of the Silent Publications group, Independent Skipton is a brand new online publication, dedicated to promoting and supporting Skipton’s independent businesses.
You may remember our very first online publication – The Skipton Press. We’ve come a long way since then and our sister publication, The Yorkshire Press, has been operating for well over a year now. We have various other publications in our portfolio too – one dedicated to history and nostalgia and another which focuses on property in Yorkshire.
Having spent many months sharing news from Skipton and promoting local businesses over on The Yorkshire Press, we felt it made sense to create a new publication specifically for our home town. After all, Skipton is where we shop, where we dine out and where we take pleasure in meeting new faces and conversing with old.
Since March 2020, local businesses have faced incredibly worrying times. During the COVID-19 pandemic, some have managed to adapt their business models and continue trading but many have struggled immensely. We have helped such businesses over the past few weeks by sharing their news, promoting their services, offering social media support and running a weekly online market. We’re proud to say it has made a huge difference to some of our struggling local businesses.
Tina Botterill from Cool Cards & Gifts says:
“During this very worrying period for independent businesses, I would like to thank Independent Skipton for giving us exposure and promoting our business to people who were unaware of the products and services that we offer. Over a two Sunday period of trading online, I was able to pay my rent for the shop and had met new customers. One lady sent me her list of cards for the next two months and asked me to choose them for her. What more could I ask for?”
Corinne Hill from Choice Baskets says:
“During this time all small businesses need to find new ways to sell their products. Choice Baskets is online, but we still like to support our local community. The Independent Skipton Market has proved a positive event, we have gained more likes to our business page, and have reached people locally that perhaps didn’t know we existed.
“Each Market Day we have attended has produced a sale. It’s great to see local businesses supporting each other. I have seen products I didn’t know were available and businesses that I had not heard of. One positive from the current situation!”
With Skipton businesses due to reopen and resume trading over the next couple of months, it is imperative that, as local residents, we all continue to support the businesses which make our town unique. We were sad to hear that Just By The Bridge will be closing permanently and we sincerely hope that others don’t befall the same fate.
At Independent Skipton, we are here to help and we are firm believers that local advertising should be accessible to all businesses, regardless of size and budget. To find out how we can help yours, email [email protected] or [email protected]
