Last year, Skipton was named the most polite place in Britain! A great addition to Skiptons already impressive roster of titles, we couldn’t help wondering who was behind the title!
As a means of quantifying and identifying who the most polite folks in town are, and therefore the major contributers to our win, we looked to TripAdvisor, reading through hundreds of reviews and counting the number of times the word “polite” appeared!
Those listed in this roundup are six businesses who are amongst those with the highest frequency of the word polite in their reviews, and by default, some of the most polite businesses in the country!
With a whopping 50 reviews referencing politeness, on paper, The Cake’Ole is the most polite place in Skipton! The Cake’Ole is a well known throughout Skipton and beyond. They sell delicious cakes in their quirky and unique tea room. The Cake’Ole was launched in late 2014 by former bankers, Neil Senior and Richard Wilson. They are both passionate about their business and this really shines through when you visit! Their motto is “No matter what the weather outside there is always a blue sky and a smile at The Cake ‘Ole.”
“Tucked away in the corner of the undercover Craven Arcade. Quirky, fun and inviting cosy tea room. A mixture of ages dining. Décor is fun and just ”off the wall” so different and amusing. Some tables and chairs in the courtyard, we dinned in ordering the 3 cheese panini with coffee and cakes. Access is great for all, no steps, loos to the side of the counter and no steps, plenty of table space. Really enjoyed the environment and staff were great, very friendly polite and prompt. ” – 5 stars – TripAdvisor

“Recently attended a family wedding here and was very impressed by the accommodation, the food and the service. Our room was nicely decorated, very clean and spacious. The bed was very comfortable and we were able to have a quiet night’s sleep. The wedding lunch and breakfast were very tasty and plentiful and all of the staff that served us were friendly, helpful and polite. The event was well run and enjoyed by all.”
The Woolly Sheep
As well as being one of Skipton’s leading pubs, The Wooly Sheep is one of the most polite places in town! A Timothy Tailor pub, the opening statement on their website is “Everyone at The Woolly Sheep Inn, Skipton is looking forward to giving you a warm welcome,“ and rather than a nice bit of marketing on their website, this statement is obviously true! They stock a wide variety of local ale, often host events and serve delicious food. You can certainly expect a warm welcome at The Wooly Sheep!

“The woolly sheep inn is a cosy B & B in Skipton the staff were all very friendly and polite, the room was very clean and comfortable the only thing I would say is that the room we were in was above the bar area and was a little noisy until about 1pm they do supply earplugs but this wouldn’t deter us from staying here again, we ate in on the night we stayed and I have to say this was absolutely fabulous 10/10 for the meal and service the breakfast the following day was of equal standard. I would defiantly recommend the woolly inn for a break and Skipton itself is a lovely place.” – 5 Stars – TripAdvisor

“Food always really hot and tasty, cooked to order – love the Philly Cheese Steak and you must have a pancake special to finish if you have room. All staff really polite, friendly and helpful. New adult only room is great if you want a bit of quiet and the ability to talk during your meal. A must visit!”
Keelham Farm Shop
Despite being just over a year old, they’ve grown fantastic relationships with local growers and merchants. They stock the produce and meat of over 400 local suppliers, whilst actively keeping waste to a minimum. If all businesses had the same values as The Keelham Farm shop the world would undoubtedly be a much healthier, caring and well-fed place!
The restaurant puts local produce at the centre of all its dishes, and all the ingredients can be bought in the shop. It serves breakfast, lunch and afternoon meals, showing off its abundance of beautifully fresh food. It simply is a must-visit!
“Stopped by on the way through Skipton for something to eat; so glad we did. Excellent food, superb service! Served by Charlotte who was kind, polite and knowledgeable. The atmosphere is lovely; very welcoming. Would heartily recommend the pies, followed by chocolate brownies.” – 5 Stars – TripAdvisor

“We stayed here one night due to being in the area after a shopping trip, the location is lovely with spectacular views from most windows. The rooms are clean and well presented, all the usual extras are available in the room. The breakfast was very nice and the owners/staff are polite and welcoming. The only minus point I would say goes against this B&B is the very very steep descent from the main road to the property if you intend walking from the property in the evenings you need to be fit and happy for a tough start to your walk. Other than that point I would have no trouble in recommending this B&B for short or long stays.” – 5 Stars – TripAdvisor
